Get a Mole check answer on the spot
MoleMate is a non-invasive, rapid, and painless melanoma screening device that has been specifically designed with and for General Practitioners and skin specialists. By assisting and accelerating the diagnostic process, MoleMate enables the medical professional to quickly scan and make a decision to refer a patient, excise a lesion or immediately assure them that their lesion is not suspicious.
MoleMate comprises a hand-held scanner and software that uses SIAscopy, the skin imaging technology that scans and visualises haemoglobin, melanin, dermal melanin and collagen (SIAscans) up to 2mm under the skin. SIAscopy provides medical professionals with a wealth of previously unavailable information to assist them in making an instant clinical decision about a lesion during a patient consultation.
MoleMate incorporates an easy-to-use decision support system which asks the medical professional questions about features in the haemoglobin, melanin, dermal melanin and collagen images that are displayed on the screen. The scoring system (The Hunter Scoring System) aids in the detection of many types of suspicious lesions at the early stages, before they become apparent to the naked eye.
MoleMate also provides a magnified dermatoscopic view, which means that medical professionals used to dermoscopy will find the transition to MoleMate easy and familiar.
The medical professional can then share SIAscans with the patient on the spot, thus reassuring the patient whilst increasing patient confidence during and after the consultation.
MoleMate produces a patient report that includes the patients SIAscans together with data required for referral, or for the patient to take home.

What is SIAscopy?
SIAscopy understands the way that light interacts with the skin; the manner in which it scatters or bounces, the amount absorbed by cells and other structures along with the different changes in wavelength or colour. By understanding these interactions and comparing the light sent into skin with light that comes back out, SIAscopy is able to determine the nature and position of many of the different components of the skin.
SIAscopy measures key chromophores within the skin, in particular haemoglobin, melanin and collagen. SIAscopy is also able to determine whether melanin is in the top layer of the skin, or whether it has moved lower down into the papillary dermis (dermal melanin).
How does SIAscopy work?
MoleMate uses the SIAscope V scanner. When the scanner illuminates the skin, some of the light is reflected and scattered from the surface. The remainder is transmitted into the top layers of the skin.
Varying fractions of the incoming light are then firstly absorbed by the melanin in the epidermis before entering the dermis, where they are absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood vessels. Scattering also occurs in the dermis when the light interacts with the collagen, resulting in a portion of the light being remitted back to the surface.
By interpreting the combination of wavelengths that are received back by the SIAscope V, SIAscopy is then able to produce SIAscans; these are generated by referring to its proprietary mathematical model of skin optics. MoleMate is then able to present the user with the generated SIAscans for interpretation by the medical professional.
